The National Convention on the European Union started with Chapter 23

Today was the first meeting of the working group for Chapter 23, within the framework of the National Convention on the European Union. The event was opened by Ms. Mileva Gjurovska, President of the European Movement in the Republic of Macedonia and project implementer, Mr. Talat Xhaferi, President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, as well as Alexander Duleba, Director of the Slovak Foreign Policy Association (SFPA).

Aleksandar Jovanoski from EPI addressed as an expert in Chapter 23: Judiciary, fight against corruption and fundamental rights. In his address, the research and monitoring of the EPI and the Network 23 were presented.

“The European Union does not recommend interference of the executive with the monitoring of the judiciary reforms. Therefore, the Council for Monitoring the Reforms in the Judiciary must work transparently and regularly inform the Parliament and the public regarding the results of its work. Therefore, we would be sure that the reforms, but also the work of this body are taking the right direction. “- Jovanoski

Monitoring the reforms shows progress in implementing the urgent reform priorities.

“We have made significant progress in implementing the urgent reform priorities in the area of ​​judiciary. Last May, 5 out of 9 reforms were not implemented at all. Our monitoring shows that a year later, 7 out of 9 judicial reforms are under way. “- Jovanovski

About the event

The National Convention on the European Union was developed and successfully applied in the Slovak Republic as a model for motivating social actors to participate in the process of negotiations with the EU. Through the project, the Slovak experts will transfer their experiences to the Macedonian partners. The Convention in Macedonia will be organized as a permanent forum for open dialogue between representatives of the Government, Parliament, relevant state institutions, political parties, as well as representatives of universities, businessmen, trade unions, civil society and other important stakeholders of the EU integration process in the Republic Macedonia.

The European Policy Institute has been appointed as a permanent member of Working Group 3 of the National Convention on the EU, referring to Chapter 23.
