On 6th and 7th of July, around 150 citizens discussed and asked questions about North Macedonia’s foreign policy, the alignment with the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) of the EU, and the relations of the country with NATO in the fourth National Deliberative Poll organized by EPI, in cooperation with the Deliberative Democracy lab from Stanford University in the USA.
After the discussions held in 11 focus groups, the citizens asked questions to the panel composed of politicians and experts. On the first day on the topic of foreign relations and alignment with the CSDP the citizens’ questions were answered by Drita Abdiu Halili, Malinka Ristevska Jordanova, Marko Troshanovski and Ivica Bocevski. On the second day, the questions about North Macedonia’s relations with NATO were answered by Ilina Mangova, Metodi Hadji Janev, Pavle Arsoski, Nenad Markovikj and Albert Musliu.
The Deliberative Poll is a unique form of political consultation that combines the techniques of public opinion polling and public debate. It aims to show how public opinion would change on a certain subject if the citizens had the opportunity to be more informed about the subject. The Deliberative Poll shows the peoples’ opinions before and after deliberating.
This event was organized as part of the project “Fostering Policy Analysis and Public Debate 3.0” financed by the National Endowment for Democracy and in cooperation with Stanford University.
