This brief provides an overview of the latest rule of law developments in Romania, as observed under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) of the European Union (EU), with a special focus on judicial independence and justice reform. It is also of some relevance for the Macedonian authorities as it reaffirms the importance of ensuring a framework for long-term evaluation of the ongoing judicial reforms as a precondition for sustainable and effective reform, which will also continue to be carried out following the country’s accession to the EU.
