Debate: How can we improve the links between policy and research in North Macedonia?
The European Policy Institute organized the panel discussion “How do we improve links between policy and research in North Macedonia?” that served as a launching event of the “Yearbook on European law, policies and institutions” as well as a forum to bring together relevant academia, policy researchers, and institutions to give ideas on the way forward in fostering cooperation.
The panel was opened by EPI’s director, Simonida Kacarska, who highlighted the importance and need for cooperation between various actors in the research and policy-making field. Dr Biljana Kotevska presented the Yearbook, and its content, as well as the authors and their topics of research. The panel discussion consisted of Prof. Jelena Dzankic from the European University Institute, Florence; Prof. Arta Selmani from the South East European University – Tetovo; and Prof. Jadranka Denkova, University ‘Goce Delčev’ – Štip. They talked about the connection between policy-making and policy research and their experiences at their universities.
In 2020, EPI in cooperation with the University ‘Goce Delčev’–Štip and the South East European University–Tetovo, established a research group “European law, policies, and institutions”. The research group facilitates research cooperation and exchange and enables building bridges between the various stakeholders, all the while enhancing the impact potential and closing the gap between academia and policy research. The group focuses on researchers from academic institutions and researchers from policy research organizations (think tanks), as well as on unaffiliated (independent)researchers. The group conducts various activities, including holding discussion events and fostering public dialogue by opening less discussed EU-accession-related issues, research and advocacy, networking and facilitating contacts between the relevant stakeholders, and publishing research results and discussion outcomes in various formats. The “Yearbook on European law, policies, and institutions” is among the most important publications.
