IPA monitoring: Strengthening of the parliamentary control over the use of EU funds in the Republic of Macedonia

This research project was supported by the Think and Link Programme of the European Fund For the Balkans 2012. The final product was a policy study based on comparative analysis conducted in Macedonia, Bulgaria, Croatia and Slovenia.

The research objectives were to provide evidence on EU best practices of parliament’s scrutiny of use of EU funds, with focus on New Member States; to identify the existing gaps and obstacles preventing efficient scrutiny by the Macedonian Parliament of the use of EU funds; and to assess the feasibility for establishment of effective monitoring mechanisms of EU funds by the Parliament. The project contributed in improving transparency of use of EU funds, as it exerted more pressure and demand for accurate and timely information by Parliament, by civil society and media.
