The results of the National Debate on the role and models of involvement of the Assembly in EU integration show that with greater information and accumulated knowledge about the process, citizens became more critical.
After the debate, citizens came out with the view that key EU decisions are made by the Government, without real input from the Assembly, but also with less trust in the dialogue on EU issues between the government and the opposition.
At the same time, their factual knowledge about the process grew, most visible in the level of awareness about the work of the National Council for European Integration, a body that only half of all respondents had heard of before the debate.
These results come from the fifth National Deliberative Poll in the country, conducted by EPI in cooperation with the Deliberative Democracy Lab from Stanford University in the USA, on the topic of the role and models of involvement of the Assembly in EU integration.
The deliberative poll was held on 25 and 26 April with 136 participants, preceded by a baseline survey of 1200 respondents from across the country.
