Yesterday, EPI organized the first training for judges and public prosecutors as part of our project “Judicial Action for Human Rights Protection”, on the topic “Anti-discrimination in Focus: The Universal Periodic Review and the Role of Judicial Authorities”.<\/span><\/p>\n

The training took place at the premises of the Academy for Judges and Public Prosecutors, and focused on the role of judges and public prosecutors in the protection of human rights. More specifically, Ms. Tatijana Temelkoska, Human Rights Advisor at the OHCHR Office in North Macedonia, provided an introduction to the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism, while Igor Jadrovski from the Commission for Prevention and Protection against Discrimination (CPPD) provided a theoretical framework on the foundations of discrimination. Additionally, participants discussed the role of the CPPD and the possibilities for cooperation with judicial authorities in fulfilling the recommendations of the last cycle of the UPR.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project is supported by a grant National Intervention of the regional project “SMART Balkans – Civil Society for Shared Western Balkans” implemented by the Center for Civil Society Promotion (CPCD), the Center for Research and Policy Making (CRPM) and IDM Albania, and financially supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway (Norwegian Embassy in Belgrade).<\/span><\/p>\n
