Democracy and Rule of Law: Joint Action for Urgent Reforms in the Judiciary

On June 1, 2017, the European Policy Institute - Skopje (EPI) started implementing the project "Joint Action for Urgent Reforms in the Judiciary", together with the Institute for Human Rights (project coordinator) and the Macedonian Young Lawyers Association.

The overall objective of the project is to strengthen the transparency, accountability and professionalism of judiciary.

Specific objectives:
1. Strengthening the structural monitoring on the implementation of Urgent Reform Priorities (URP) in the judiciary;
2. Promotion of public debate on the implementation of the URP in the judiciary, through civic advocacy.

The main long-term benefit of citizens and other stakeholders of this joint action is the facilitation of an easy access to an independent, impartial and professional court. The joint action will reduce corruption in the public sector, restore confidence in the judiciary and improve the quality of life of all citizens, bringing the country closer to faster EU membership.

Expected results:

P.1. Determining the current status and identifying the key problems faced by the institutions when implementing the URP.
P.2. Structural monitoring on the implementation of the URP in the judiciary has been established.
P.3. Strengthened cooperation between CSOs and judicial authorities for the implementation of the URP.
P.4. Increased awareness of the general public about the needs for the implementation of the URP in judiciary.
